Thank you so much for describing detail of this failure.Really informative.I have often surmised that ‘normal’ civil service work simply hasn’t been done but have never before read a convincing account.
Education, the only policy area in which I have extensive and comparative international experience, has been a particular victim of the crazy culture of absent civil service experience creating a space wherein expensive spads (+ ‘tame’ academics provide spurious ,’evidential ‘base) force through policy changes ,(often ideological nonsense dressed up as pedagogy.)Unlike ferries ,the harms and waste are a lot more difficult to quantify; the country’s potential productivity squandered by an utterly amateurish disrespect for bureaucratic work honestly and well done?
One thing is for sure, there is a culture in the civil service in Scotland which doesn't involve pushing back on SNP ministers. Something which ought to mean questions asked of the civil servants at the top. These people get paid handsomely and get golden pensions when retiring.
Everything associated with the Nationalist Government in Scotland’s failings. Seems to be the fault of somebody else. Am I alone in finding this strange?
It's never Nicola's fault, I think that's rule 1 of modern SNP politics. She's basically our answer to Trump: never accept the outcome of elections/votes you dislike, divisive figure who worked to sustain division, facing arrest and legal troubles...

Is it just a myth that only SNP voting candidates ever get positions within the Scottish civil service corps?
Just asking for a friend.

Who should be regulating our civil service...do we just assume they'll all adhere to the civil service code without any kind of enforcement?
Their mortgage will be reliant on their compliance.
