If only the people that believe her lies would read this. There must be a way to show these people she’s to blame and not Westminster. I’m heartily sick listening to her blaming the Tories. Great article as always Dean.

I wanted to frame the contemporary nationalist rhetoric in some sort of historically accurate context. The Anglophobia is Scotland's last acceptable prejudice, and it really needs calling out in an analytic form. Pleased you liked it.

I agree. I think a lot of Scots need to learn their actual history instead of the fantasy versions. We’re being dragged back to the dark ages. I despair at what people must think of us that don’t know us well but have seen the displays that have taken place by the Braveheart fans. No wonder we have a unicorn symbolic of our fairyland. Our economic future looks very bleak indeed. 👍🏻

I comfort myself that at no point has a majority ever voted for the SNP. The silent majority is still very much aware that what is being peddled isn't social democracy, it's covered in that varnish but beneath is nationalism intermingling with populism, with all the cheap tricks. Perhaps a Scottish Labour recovery will help if it can recapture the lost soft 'n' (lower case 'n') nationalists, and bring them back into the internationalist narrative of the great British Labour tradition. The likes of Atlee or Willie Ross would never have tolerated the current state of affairs.

That is a comfort of course. I was a bit concerned about Labour getting in because of an earlier photo of Anas Sarwar holding a placard supporting Independence. I was so relieved when he joined with other parties to make up councils. This is certainly a step in the right direction. It certainly got SNP going, they kept going on about it, although they had approached SNP themselves out of desperation. Hope it the momentum keeps up. 👍🏻

The Scottish Tories urgently need a new leader, they need to begin there. And also find a positive prospectus, I mean, why vote Scottish Tory right now? 'Stop the SNP' only goes so far when people (myself included) are needing to contend with the cost of living crisis. An income of 12k a year plus money made from writings is easily stressed, yet what do the opposition parties intend to do for me? There's more to earning my vote than opposing the Nats.
