A Prosecutor to Beat the Convicted Criminal
With Biden’s Endorsement, Harris is easily the best person to lead the battle for America's future against convicted criminal Donald Trump
SUNDAY witnessed President Biden reaffirm his commitment to protecting and defending American democracy.
When his closest aides presented their latest internal polling, Biden concluded his narrow pathway to victory had finally closed. By passing the torch to his Vice President, Biden also proved another important thing. The Democrat Party’s rhetoric about the danger to democratic institutions presented by convicted criminal Donald Trump have not been cynical talking points. This White House and the wider Democrat coalition are sincerely felt, so much so they are swapping out the top of the ticket 105 days from election day.
Kamala Harris stands for the future, not the past. Unlike the Republican party who persist on nominating for a third time a sex offending, secret stealing convicted criminal which the American electorate have once already explicitly rejected.
But this context is hardly her only strength going forward. We know that Kamala Harris is very capable of prosecuting a case. Sure, defence is her weakness as her run for the Democrat nomination last time underscored. But on offence? She proved her mettle repeatedly. With Harris at the top of the ticket this Presidential election race suddenly is no longer a referendum on whether Joe Biden is up to the job, it’s suddenly the ex-prosecutor vs the convicted criminal.
Americans are living in a ‘law and order’ moment, in part thanks to Republican rhetoric about “an invasion” of “illegal aliens flooding across the border”. The atmosphere is febrile as voters in big cities vote out district attorney’s who have strayed too far from traditional law and order mandates.
Harris is trained for constructing arguments, paying attention to details and quick to grasp issues. She has the skill-sets to bring a case and make it stick. Even Donald Trump - once upon a time - saw Kamala Harris abilities. So much so that on 26 September 2011 he wrote her a $5,000 cheque. As Michael Steele, former chair of the Republican National Committee, snarked: “When Trump wrote that check to re-elect Kamala Harris in 2011, I bet he didn’t think she’d cash it in 2024!”
And for any doubting Thomas still lurking, check out her 2019 cross-examination of Trump’s attorney general at the Senate Judiciary Committee. Harris took William Barr apart live on television. Barr, who had been insisting on undercutting the Mueller Report with a highly misleading summary, was forced to confess never having even reviewed the evidence in the Report. A flustered, sweating and grouchy William Barr was reduced to stammering attempts to interrupt her. Harris pushed him aside repeatedly and with ease.
On top of that, Kamala brings forward other advantages over any other would be Democrat nominee. Although according to the polling she is relatively unpopular, that is potentially misleading. Not least since American voters persistently say they simply do not see her enough. In short, her unpopularity is likely highly nebulous, quickly overcome as she goes on offence against the former President and sex offending Donald Trump. Kamala doesn’t need to define herself, she can unite the anti-Trump coalition (a majority of Americans) simply by staying on offence and being a blank slate into which voters can read whatever they so desire.
Nobody can tell me that is not one hell of an advantage 105 days out from an election which is existential for United States democratic norms, and wider European security.
Additionally, as Vice President Kamala Harris can immediately inherit the entire national Biden campaign infrastructure. From local state precinct level ‘get out the vote’ operations, state-wide campaign organisations all the way up to the Democratic National Committee (DNC). In short, Harris doesn’t need to put together a whole campaign organisation she can simply step into one bequeathed by the Biden team. This includes all the election guru staffers throughout the USA who operate behind the scenes to make a $14 billion Presidential election campaign actually happen.
Then there are the big money megadonors, most of whom have already fallen in line publicly behind Kamala. LinkedIn co-founder Reid Hoffman has said “Kamala Harris is the right person at the right time”. That sentiment and vocal public support actually matters, not least since Hoffman has previously given more than $8.6m to boost the Biden-Harris ticket.
Wall Street fundraiser and chair of the New York-based corporate law firm Paul Weiss, Brad Karp is already singing her praises, “Kamala Harris would be a formidable nominee and make a superb president,” Karp has also told the Financial Times, she is “a dynamic and decisive leader and a bridge builder, who I believe could help unite our country, heal our divisions and help forge a better future for all Americans”.
This is a formidable picture forming before us. A blank-slate who can re-contextualise the entire race back into a referendum on the secret-stealing sex offending criminal Trump. The ex-prosecutor who has the skill set to go hard on offence and can craft a message and outwit smarter men than the orange-faced clown that is the 78 year old Trump. She brings a youthful 59 years which suddenly makes Trump seem really, really old as she musters a ready-made campaign arsenal to levy against him.
Harris is the perfect candidate to present America with the argument that an insurrectionist is unfit to be President of the United States.

IMAGINE her platform for President, think about the policy substance now. Harris is a formidable campaigner for women’s rights to access reproductive healthcare. She has been touring key swing and battleground states highlighting abortion access as one of the marquee issues of the moment.
Back in January she was in Wisconsin for the 51st anniversary of the Supreme Court decision granting a constitutional right to abortion. Since the Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization decreed that abortion rights should be left to the state, Democrats have won a score of victories thanks largely to the abortion issue.
Be under no illusions, it’s the issue the Republicans are terrified of this election cycle. They are disunited on it, as many of convicted criminal Donald Trump’s grassroots supporters yearn for a nationwide abortion ban (something Trump refuses to endorse). At his nominating convention, the Republicans over four nights didn’t mention abortions, right to life or any other phraseology on the subject at all. It was the elephant in the room for the GOP.
A Kamala Harris candidacy can remind voters of the dangers of Republican overreach, as she defends the rights that Trump’s MAGA movement ripped away from a generation of women and girls.
On law and order, Harris also inherits the Biden-Harris White House gun control legislative victory. A useful assert going forward as six in ten Americans tell Pew it’s too easy to get guns in America.
As recently as March, Vice President Harris was in Parkland Florida to help the campaign for red-flag laws. In her speech she highlighted her law and order credentials
“There are only 21 states that have passed red flag laws. Part of why I am here today is to challenge every state: Pass a red flag law…The second reason I am here is to announce that I am launching the national Resource Center for red flag laws, and this national resource center will be a place where we will provide training for local leaders on how to use red flag laws and keep communities safe,”
In 2018, in Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School there was a horrific mass shooting. Harris made her Parkland speech, pushing for what most Americans want (red flag laws) and met with families whose loved ones were murdered during the 2018 mass shooting.
There is little doubt that whether the issue is abortion or law and order nominee Harris has a unique skillset setting her streets ahead of any other contender.
America is at a crossroads as a ‘National Populist’ movement led by literal criminals is banging at the gates. Donald Trump (convicted felon), Steve Bannon (convicted felon currently serving out his sentence), Peter Navarro (convicted felon, freshly released from the clink). Then there are all those criminals he granted a pardon to including (but not limited to) Paul Manafort, Roger Stone and disgraced General Michael Flynn.
Kamala Harris can unite the Democrats, prosecute the case against the sex offending convicted criminal Donald Trump, saving innumerable down-ballot liberals as she potentially even places the House of Reps back in play.
Ignore the racist bile from the Republicans as they mock Kamala Harris as ‘the DEI Veep’. She is the best person for the job. And she is putting the fear of God into Trump-world.
