(VIDEO) Dean's Discussions #6 | We need to talk about the Scottish National Investment Bank...
I'm joined by financial investigative journalist Harry Clynch to discuss his reporting concerning the Scottish National Investment Bank and question-marks regarding its use of taxpayers money
In this episode I’m joined by Harry Clynch, Features Editor @DisruptionBank which publishes “disruptive content since May 2018”. They cover stories on technology successes, banking, regulators and the bigger stories affecting our data.
As always, I seek to have nuanced conversations, so with this in mind we are digging into the Scottish National Investment Bank (SNIB), a Scottish state-owned investment and national development set up by the Scottish National Party government.
His investigative reporting has revealed question marks around potential unlawfulness, potential conflicts of interest, issues concerning SNIB risk management and a poor investment track record. All underwritten by taxpayers money.
We explore the Scottish Government’s failure to fully implement the 2020 Scottish National Investment Bank Act, concerns about a perceived lack of stability in senior SNIB positions which could undermine performance all under the shadow of a lack of transparency with taxpayers money.
The SNIB is a young organisation, and it’s remit is suitably ambitious, but does a lack of clarity compensate for current failures to live up to the SNP government’s grand vision? Together we dig into Harry’s investigative reporting.
All guests participate assuming honest intent on each other’s part, and we extend this to the SNIB, the politicians and all others involved in the subject matter. My goal remains to seeks to have sincere discussion concerning challenging topics. As G.K Chesterton once wrote, “Angels can fly because they take themselves lightly”, and this is the benchmark we must always strive for.
